Nia Remuera emerges out of the sandpit after completing his long jump attempt on day three of the 2021 Cook Islands Youth Games yesterday.
More than 100 youngsters competed in the
athletics events at the National Stadium in Nikao.

Mave said they had two sessions – morning was Kids Athletics programme for
under-13 from five years to 12 and the afternoon session was for U15 and U18
“We ran a 6x station circuit which had 2x Run,
2x Jump and 2x Throw in the kids athletics programme. The stations had fun
progressive elements for the child’s development age. It is designed to build the right skills,
coordination, strength, balance and speed which will be the foundation for the
adult events,” Mave said.
“There were about 70 kids divided per their
age group, all about participation and proved very inclusive of all children.”
The U15 and U18 competitions featured six
events 100 metres, 200m, 800m, long jump, shotput and discus.
The results were being compiled when this
edition went to print last night. Full results in tomorrow’s edition. The Youth
Games will continue today with touch rugby followed by beach handball tomorrow.
