For the first time, the Ngatangiia Matavera Eastern Stars Netball Club hosted a successful mixed netball competition with the participation of 12 teams.

The tournament was held a week ago on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the hard courts in Muri.

President of the club, Tia Nga said: “It was a successful and incredible day with a really good turnout of teams that included families who joined in.”

Although the players had to cope with the blazing hot sun, “it was a wholesome fun day”, Nga said.

“The MC (master of ceremonies) on the day Riley Piakura did a great job during the tournament entertaining us all and the ladies in the kitchen Roi and Moana did an amazing job as well.”

The executive committee would like to thank the following sponsors: TEM Store Terry and Maryann Strickland, Pacific Resort - Ani Thompson, Muri Beach Club Hotel - Liana Scott, Mapi and Mata Joseph, Dorothy’s Muri Beach Bungalows Ivor and Dorothy Nicholas.

“Without your support our event would not have been as successful as it was,” Nga said.

“We would like to express our gratitude to those who have supported us from the start of the year (2021) to the end, we’ve had an eventful year and have loved every moment of this journey. 2021 you’ve been good to us.”
