Beautification for the games

1 August: Ina Marsters from CISNOC took us on a journey around Rarotonga to visit sites that have been beautified in preparation for the Games.

We visited the Nikao nursery that was established two years ago under the 2009 Mini Games beautification programme, which was funded by the International Olympic Committee.

The joint project between CISNOC and the ministry of agriculture has been undertaken solely for propagating and nurturing plants for the beautification programme.

So far these plants have been taken to various parts of the island and planted.

Plants are also being taken to beautify schools for the adopt-a-country programme.

The Girl Guides and Brownies have already begun planting flowering plants using the black polythene bags supplied by CISNOC for their seedlings.

St Joseph’s and Papaaroa Schools are also doing their own planting.

During our journey around the island, we saw Sao Tuariki and Rouru Tangatapoto doing some work for the Titikaveka community in beautifying their area.

Thank you to all those taking part in the beautification programme.

It just makes Paradise look even more gorgeous.
