After a smashing day on the squash courts, the Cook Islands mens squash team earned their spot in the bronze medal match today.

The teams first win against PNG yesterday did wonders for the teams confidence and within an hour the squad picked off their Vanuatu opponents.

Josia Taio, Tui Tuakeu, Lyall Marsters and Marlon Manlangit won all their games 3-0 to book a spot in the bronze medal finals much to the delight of team manageress Mousie Skews.

We didnt muck around, laughed Tuakeu.

We rushed our games so we could have lunch and save our energy for tomorrow, he cheekily added.

The team will play at 5pm today against Samoa and on Friday the singles competition will begin. The teams sole female player Christine Hunter will take to the court.

From Wednesday next week on the mixed doubles will be played.
