Ngakau Toa Vaka clubs 18 under 16 paddlers will take to the water on Saturday afternoon to raise funds for the Vaka Eiva Mapu Oe Vaka event in November and, importantly, new paddles to be able to race in the event.

Over the past few weeks the junior male paddlers have been out in the community looking for sponsors to pledge funds for every kilometre the paddlers complete.

The junior paddlers will tackle an 18km course on Saturday which will take them from the Avarua harbour to Avana and back to the harbour.

The race will start at 12.30pm and oe vaka supporters who have not been approached by the rising paddling stars can contact assistant coach Toru Tutai at Cook Islands Printing for more information on how you can support the team.

The majority of the funds raised will go towards purchasing new paddles for the young oe vaka paddlers who are looking forward to racing in the Vaka Eiva Festival in November in particular the junior Mapu Oe Vaka programme.
