Fiji have beaten New Zealand 24-17 in the final of the Glasgow Sevens to claim their fourth title of the season and move to the brink of the World Series title.

It caps a memorable weekend in which Ben Ryan’s team secured qualification for next year’s Rio Olympics, alongside South Africa and New Zealand, and overtook South Africa at the top of the World Series standings. Pio Tuwai, Semi Kunatani and captain Osea Kolinisau were also named in the tournament dream team. Fiji lead South Africa by five points going into this weekend’s final World Series leg in London, and will guarantee their second ever world title with a top three finish. Meanwhile Samoa won the Shield final 22-12 against Portugal, having lost all of their pool games and being beaten by Wales in the bowl quarter finals.
