Wednesday 12: The second Westpac bank sponsored cycle race will be held today starting at 5pm from the Tupapa Health Clinic.

Events over the next three weeks are sponsored as part of Westpac’s overall support for multisport events in Rarotonga and in pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.

The event is a handicapped cycle race from Tupapa to Muri and back.

The actual distance is 16.4km with the turnaround marked 50 metres before the bridge outside Pacific Resort.

Last week, first across the finish line was Jeff Cook in a time of 30 minutes 40 seconds followed very closely by first female and second overall Kelly Pick and these two took the Westpac Bank sponsored prizes for week one.

This week’s event will use last week’s times as the handicap intervals (multiples of 30 seconds) and cyclists who did not ride the first week will be interspaced at what is considered their relative position.

The triathlon association is grateful for Westpac’s involvement in health orientated community events. Anyone on any bike is welcome to participate as you will be given a good head start on regular cyclists.

See you there just before 5pm please in order to get your start grid position. - CITAI
