Cowboys triumph in under 16s

As expected and predicted the Arorangi Cowboys won the under 16 Origin Energy grade grand finals 31-20 over the Tupapa Panthers.

The Panthers will be ruing their slow-first half start which saw the Cowboys lead at the halftime break by 19-3.

On a positive note in the second half after receiving the coaches acid-talk the Cowboys did meet a more determined and resilient Panthers outfit and actually won the half by 17-12.

But it was all too late and at fulltime the final score was 31-20 in the Cowboys favour.

Cowboys tries were scored by Denis Rangi, Tereinga Murare, Helsam Teiti, Junior Ngametua and Tokoiva George with Tereinga Murare slotting in two conversions while Jag Love also kicked a conversion.

Outstanding for the Panthers were Othneil Joseph, Piri Maao and Puna Joseph who all scored tries on Saturday.

Team mate Maeva Smith kicked the teams conversions and penalty goals and was also a standout for the Panthers over the season.

The age grades most valuable player award went to the Cowboys Jag Love for a brilliant season.
