Twelve hardy athletes took on the first duathlon course of the new triathlon season on Thursday and today athletes will compete in the first triathlon at Tikioki.

Vanessa Palmer lead the way in Thursdays duathlon to complete the 2km run, 8km bike and final 1km run in 29.06. Jennie George was hot on her heels finishing in 30.55.

Anthony Will wrapped up the top three placing in 36.03 to also be the first man across the line.

Todays triathlon starts at 3pm from the triathlon site in Tikioki and all athletes regulars and newcomers are welcome to take part.

The triathlon distance on offer today will be a 200m swim, 8km cycle and 2km swim. This is a very casual event and its over to you to do what you want for however long you want to do it.

The Hash cooler and beverages will be on offer to hydrate athletes afterwards.

Dont forget your helmet as the new compulsory helmet rule applies for both duathlon and triathlon events.
