The 2011/2012 Aitutaki womens cricket season is set to go boom on the December 9.

After a long 10-year hiatus, the success of winning gold at the Manea games recently in Mangaia has fuelled the women to take to the pitches once again.

Aitutaki womens cricketing stalwart Twin Ruarangi has been instrumental in preparing the women for what should be an action-packed season.

Ruarangi says that there is definitely interest building with four teams confirmed including Tautu, Vaipae, Amuri and Are Nikau, which consists of players from Nikaupara, Reureu and Arutunga.

The team we took to Mangaia for the Manea Games are all spread across the four teams competing in the Aitutaki championship.

Im happy with how they are developing, so it should be a good season.

At the moment there is no clear favourite but we should get a good indication after the first round of games, says Ruarangi.

First round action sees Tautu take on Amuri, while Vaipae look to do battle against Are Nikau.

With two rounds in the competition, expect to see some tight games and plenty of wickets and runs to keep everybody excited all season long.
