Thursday 9: After two days of the Cook Islands Games netball tournament, Vaka Takitumu has emerged as the gold medal winners in both the under 21 and open categories.

Vaka Takitumu, Te Au O Tonga, Puaikura and Aitutaki battled it out on the netball courts with some great games seen especially in the under 21 category.

Under 21 players were keen to show their skills on the final day of games on Tuesday with national under 21 coach Teresa Tairi attending the games to check out the talent.

Vaka Te Au O Tonga walked away with the silver medal in both the under 21 and open grade with stand out players in the under 21 grade being the shooting combination of Mati Toru and Odile Pauka.

Puaikura managed to edge out Aitutaki for the bronze medal in the under 21 category while Aitutaki took home the bronze in the open.

The games held at the Ngatangiia hard courts were well attended by netball fans and it’s these same netball fans who are encouraged to head to the national auditorium today and support the first local match for the national under 21 training squad as they take on a local under 21 selection.

The game starts at 2pm. - Matariki Wilson
