The week-long annual event will draw a number of overseas teams from New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Norfolk Island and Asia competing in the various categories.
Event coordinator Eva Allsworth said organisers expected most of the overseas teams to arrive in Rarotonga by tomorrow.
Australia-based “Mixed Bag of Nuts,” which will compete in the masters mixed category, arrived earlier this week and wasted no time in getting themselves adapted to the conditions in Rarotonga.
Most overseas clubs will be hoping to have some trial runs before the exciting competition gets underway on Saturday.
Crew registration will take place on Friday from 10am to 5pm at the Vaka Shed in Avarua.
This will be followed by the traditional welcome and canoe blessing before teams attend the official photo shoot session at 5.30pm at Avarua harbour.
The Matson Vaka Eiva 2017 Paddle Art Exhibition opening will be held later in the evening at the Beachcomber Pearl Market and Art Gallery, starting at 6pm.
