Participants have less than a week to register for the 43rd Round Rarotonga Road Race to be held later this month.
The registration for the annual event which will be held on September 19 closes this Saturday.
With three race categories on offer, the weeklong running fiesta caters for all fitness ability, shape and size.
The 31km round Rarotonga course is the event’s main race which the participants can sprint, jog or walk at their own pace. It will start at 5.30am outside the Banana Court and end at the Sinai Hall finish line.
This year a new 31km-by-3 relay category has been introduced for teams of three member to tackle the 31km round island course.
Starting alongside the 31km runners, the first relay runner will go through until the first changeover at the Kavera bus stop where the second runner will begin and head through to the Bahai Centre in Ngatangiia. The final runner will then takeover and complete the final 10km through till the finish line at the Sinai Hall in Avarua.
The shorter 10km race starts from the Bahai Centre in Ngatangiia at 7.30am.
Athletics Cook Islands introduced a relay format as a way of enticing locals who might not be up to taking on the full 31km course but would like to enjoy the atmosphere that comes with it.
Matariki Wilson of Destination Management Cook Islands, who is managing the event, said the race “could be the ultimate team bonding and fitness testing ground” for Pa Enua teams competing at the Cook Islands Games in October.
“What an amazing support we’ve received from our local community with requests flooding in for registration forms. That’s the first step - now all you need to do is fill in the registration forms and send it back to our team - and we will get you on the start line on Saturday, September 19.”
