Tuesday 31: Whoever wins on Friday night will not only be handed the illustrious title of Miss Cook Islands, but will also take home a brand new motorcycle.

The Motor Centre in Panama donated a red Daelim City yesterday to be given to the winner.

The $3600 motorcycle joins the growing booty of prizes which are soon to be confirmed by the organisers.

Motor Centre managing director Don Dorrell says they became involved as it was a good community cause which supported young Cook Islands women. Pageant committee member Mousie Skews says the Miss Cook Islands event would not be possible without the assistance of local businesses.

“This is the first time we’ve had a bike for a first prize and we’re very appreciative to Don Dorrell and the Motor Centre,” Skews says.

“It’s a great and it joins the many other prizes already received from our sponsors.

“We can’t do this without the sponsors,” she says. Current Miss Cook Islands Krystina Kauvai and Miss South Pacific Vanessa Marsh were on hand to receive the motorcycle on behalf of the pageant.

Kauvai says she was looking forward to the pageant night on Friday and was not nervous about handing over her crown.

“It’s an exciting time and I’ve met all the girls and said to them if they ever need any advice, just ask, but I don’t think they need it,” Kauvai says.

“They’re very polished which is a credit to the organisers,” Marsh says. Winner of the Miss South Pacific title last year in America Samoa, Marsh has been invited as special guest of the pageant. She will appear perform a Niuean item on Friday night and will be visiting the Creative Centre today along with Kauvai and Tongan performer Joey Mataele.

The ‘Night to Remember’ pageant finale will be held from 6pm at the National Auditorium. Tickets are still available from Bergman and Sons and Perfumes of Rarotonga. Organisers recommend tickets be pre-purchased to guarantee a seat and ensure the pageant starts on time. - DK
