Name suppression continues for cannabis accused

A woman accused of dealing cannabis has again been approved bail and had name suppression extended by the Chief Justice at the High Court in Avarua.

The accused’s lawyer Mark Short asked for his client’s continued name suppression, at least until her next appearance on October 11 when she appeared on Monday.

The application was approved by Chief Justice Sir Hugh Williams QC, who presided over the case, from New Zealand via Zoom link.

The court heard last week the accused worked for a man who had already appeared in Criminal Court.

The man is also charged with selling the drug.

Crown lawyer Annabel Maxwell-Scott said police would like time to continue investigating the matter.

Short said his client was looking forward to the investigation being completed.

“As soon as that is done we can enter a plea.

“Hopefully we can get disclosure soon.”

The court heard last week the defendant allegedly dealt cannabis at her work.

Judge Williams granted bail with conditions to continue and allowed the defendant continued name suppression until her next court date on October 11.
