Social distancing was demonstrated at the National Prayer service for the coronavirus Covid-19, with seats placed a metre apart.

There was no singing – the first national prayer service ever, to not have beautiful voices and hymns resonate through the hall.

However, these are small sacrifices that people are vigilant and mindful of, to minimise the spread of the virus that is now a pandemic.

Deputy Prime Minister Mark Brown said: “Covid-19 is spreading fast and no country seems to be immune. It is right that we gather here today to give thanks to our heavenly Father”.

Brown affirmed that fear and ignorance are the biggest threats to our country, not the virus.

“Fear creates a loss of reason, it makes people do stupid things - like going out and stockpiling on toilet paper.

“Do not let the fear rule you, tonight is about reaffirming our faith.

“God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power of another, and of sound mind…”
