Cook Islands tennis representative Brett Baudinet’s Pacific Oceania Davis Cup team won the Asia/Oceania Group III Tie held in Tay Ninh City, Vietnam last week.

The regional team defeated Vietnam 2-1 in the final after the doubles in which Baudinet featured won the last of the three-match set.

In the pool play, Pacific Oceania defeated Saudi Arabia, Iran and United Arab Emirates to move up to World Group II next year.

“We are all super proud of our achievement, winning every single one of our matches against all three countries in our pool, and not dropping a set in any of them. I believe this shows the level of our team and we are all feeling great,” Baudinet told Cook Islands News.

What a way to win to move up to World Group II again next year. We truly feel this is where we belong now.

“I’m so proud of our boys, from the players to coach and manager, everyone worked and synced well together and we have a strong team united in representing our people.”

Baudinet was selected based on his performance at the Pacific Mini Games in Northern Marianas in June this year.

Earlier this year he played in the Davis Cup World Group II for the first time in over 10 years.

The Pacific Oceania team also include Colin Sinclair (Northern Mariana Islands), Clement Mainguy (Vanuatu), Matthew Stubbings (Papua New Guinea), Gillian Osmont (Tahiti), captain Aymeric Mara (Vanuatu) and manager Cryrille Mainguy (Vanuatu).
