The Cook Islands Football Association (CIFA) proudly celebrated a landmark moment for its refereeing community — the awarding of OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) badges to six outstanding match officials: three male and three female referees last week.

This accomplishment marks a significant step in their professional journey and underscores the progress and promise of Cook Islands football on the regional stage.

These newly badged referees — Penina Katuke, Tuakeu Paerau, Teupoko Tuariki, Jubilee Jubilee, Andrew Teena, Matilda Auua, and George George — have demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment, discipline, and passion for the game.

The OFC Badge is more than just a symbol; it is a recognition of excellence and a gateway to officiating at the highest levels of Oceania football. For these referees, it represents countless hours of rigorous training, learning, and preparation.

CIFA director of referees and FIFA instructor Rakesh Varman expressed his immense pride in this achievement.

“These individuals have shown what it truly means to persevere and strive for greatness. They are not only representing themselves but also their families, our refereeing community, and the entire nation. Their success is our success, and it places the Cook Islands firmly on the footballing map.”

This recognition is not the finish line — it’s just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey. With continued support and a commitment to professional development, these referees are well-positioned to rise even further, aiming for appointments in continental and possibly global competitions in the future.

CIFA general secretary Allen Parker echoed these sentiments, stating: “CIFA welcomes the achievements of our young referees in their journey to upskill themselves and in earning their OFC Badges. It is pleasing to note that our referees have shown they are just as capable as their peers across the region. We are grateful to OFC for the opportunity to grow and develop our officiating talent.”

“To our referees: congratulations on this well-deserved honour. You have earned your place among the best in the region — wear your badge with pride, uphold its values with integrity, and continue to inspire the next generation of match officials in the Cook Islands.”
