Tea-keys claim Beach Games’ first gold medal

The Tea-keys finished the beach handball competition at the Cook Islands Beach Games 2022 unbeaten, claiming the annual event’s first gold medal.

The side defeated Brew Crew Katukangas 2-0 (20-15, 19-15) in the final held yesterday at the Nikao beach courts.

In the semi-final, The Tea-keys fought tooth and nail to beat Brew Crew in the shootout 3-2 after finishing the match locked at 1-all (14-15, 21-16).

In the other semis, silver medalists Brew Crew Katukangas defeated Raro Legends 2-0 (12-11, 14-5).

In the third place playoff, Brew Crew overcame Raro Legends 2-0 (13-10, 16-13) to claim bronze medal.

The beach football games will begin today through to Saturday, January 15. The remaining sports – air badminton, beach volleyball, basketball and beach touch – will be held next week.
