The BSP Cycle Series is in preparation for the BSP 100km Cycle Race on Friday, July 4th.
According to Cook Islands Triathlon president Roland Neururer, thanks to the ongoing support from major sponsor BSP, this year’s series is shaping up to be the biggest yet.
“With triathlon season behind them, the cycle series offers local athletes the perfect opportunity to stay active, build endurance, and enjoy the teamwork elements of group cycling,” Neururer said.
Training rides are being held on Thursdays and Saturdays from the Social Centre in Nikao, with up to 20 cyclists regularly hitting the road each week.
The training rides are focused on gradually building distance, starting at 32 kilometres and increasing in distance weekly until the big 100km race.
Neururer said: “To ensure a fun experience for all, cyclists are split into two to three groups – from competitive riders and seasoned cyclists to those taking a more social approach.”
“All are welcome, regardless of experience.”
The Cook Island Triathlon Association kindly asks motorists to be cautious of cyclists on the roads, particularly from 5pm on Thursdays and 2pm on Saturdays, as riders can reach speeds of 35–45 kilometre per hour.
“Safety remains a top priority as the number of participants continues to grow,” Neururer added.
