Despite the rain on Wednesday, the young ones had unstoppable energy and enthusiasm as they took part in ball and ring throws, jumps, track hurdles and sprints and relay
According to Athletics Cook Islands, “Seeing our kids smiling, laughing, and practicing their new skills together shows that the future of athletics and sport in the Cook Islands is bright.”
Adding a magical twist were Disney’s characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie who brought smiles and excitement at the event.
The World Kids Athletics Day has become a cherished event in the Cook Islands, reflecting the nation’s deep love for sport and community.
In addition, since its introduction, Athletics Cook Islands has embraced the programme, hosting vibrant events at the National Stadium and across the Pa Enua
In 2023, over 500 children from Rarotonga, Atiu, Aitutaki, Mangaia, Mitiaro and Mauke participated, earning the Cook Islands the prestigious World Athletics Kids Athletics Day global winner prize.
The prize funded new equipment, boosting grassroots programs and inter-island youth competitions.
