Letter: Take action

Kia Orana Church Leaders and Congregation Members,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I write to you today as a follower and a believer in Jesus Christ, deeply committed to upholding the teachings of Christ and preserving the Christian heritage that has guided our nation for generations and for over 200 years.

The proposal to declare the Cook Islands as a Christian Nation has attracted overwhelming support, with over 80% of submissions to the Special Select Committee affirming this vision. This reflects the will of our people, their unwavering faith in God, and their desire to protect the moral and spiritual foundation of our society.

Yet, despite this clear mandate, there is concern that Parliament may pursue an alternative course—a diluted acknowledgment of Christian values, coupled with legislation to regulate religions. Such actions fall short of reflecting the faith and commitment of Cook Islanders and raise questions about external pressures influencing our leaders.

We call upon you, as faithful servants of Christ, to take action. We urge every church and congregation to petition their Member of Parliament to honour the voices of the people and declare the Cook Islands a Christian Nation. By doing so, we will reaffirm our unity in faith, embrace the values that define us, and strengthen the spiritual fabric of our nation.

Let us stand together in prayer, faith, and action. Let us remind our leaders of their responsibility to serve God and His people with conviction and courage. And let us boldly proclaim the teachings of Jesus Christ as the cornerstone of our national identity.

Please join me in this effort by encouraging your church members to contact their Members of Parliament, write letters, and lend their voices to this cause. Together, we can ensure that our leaders hear this call and act decisively in service to God and His people.

Let’s stand for Jesus Christ and be His warriors, by walking the talk.

May our faith unite us, and may our actions glorify the name of Jesus Christ.
