Letter: Sporting things

Dear Editor, I have heard/read a few sports articles (on radio and in the paper) recently and thought I would pose a few sports-related questions to the relevant organisations, since there has been a lot of sporting things that have happened in April.

Is there a Cook Islands team going to the Pacific Mini Games in Palau in June?

  1. I remember how the CISNOC financials were going to be sorted out after last year’s AGM – were they sorted out at this year’s AGM (held in late March or early April)?
  2. How are plans coming on for upgrading the national stadium? When will a new track be installed – one month before the Mini Games start in 2029?
  3. Are there any updates (codes attending, numbers, costs etc) re the upcoming Pacific Games in Tahiti in 2027?
  4. Re the Under 21 national netball team which is going to Gibraltar this year, was the previous coach, John Glassie, pushed out, or did he jump? What were the reasons for him ‘leaving’ the team especially as he took an U21 team to the 2017 world championships?
  5. I remember seeing a photo in Cook Islands News of the Tupapa-Maraerenga soccer team at the recent Oceania club championship playoffs. I didn’t see any names to go with the photo but I would like to know how many overseas-based players played for the club at that tournament?

Regards,

Moana Moeka’a

Ruatonga.

Response:

CISNOC president Luisa Peters: We would respectfully suggest advising Moana to contact the relevant organisations directly, rather than publishing his inquiry as a "Letter to the Editor." I would be happy to discuss his queries that are relevant to CISNOC. However, I don’t believe Letters to the Editor should be used as a means for individuals to communicate with third-party organisations. For example, should I be writing to CI News every time I have an inquiry for CITC, or is it more appropriate to reach out to them directly?”

Netball Cook Islands: “There are sensitive issues involved.  Moana can reach out to John directly if he wants but NCI will not be responding.”
