Letter: Seabed consultation

All Cook Islanders should be very proud of the comments Helena Keenan-Williams made about one of the Australian DSM (deep sea mining) meetings reported in the Cook Islands News June 5th edition.

She is clearly a woman of no fear, strong intellect and of respect for the Cook Islands, and as such she has put PM Mark Brown back into his place.

Nice one Helena, we need more people like you. As a Cook Islander residing in Australia, she clearly felt cheated by the poor performance put on by the PM’s delegation regarding DSM, as she says herself, “I felt like I was at a car sales gimmick.” She comments that “they were not specialists or environmentalists. The group was made up of bishops and every day Cook Islanders”. Quite contrary to what the Seabed Authority claimed was a “science led, environmentally responsible and sovereign approach…”

Yes Mr. PM, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but there are clearly many smart Cook Islanders out there in the diaspora who were not convinced by your circus performance.

And while we are at it Mr. PM, perhaps you would like to detail exactly what your circus performance cost the Cook Islands taxpayer.
