Letter: NZ pauses funding support

Dear Editor, Aotearoa has closed the coin purse where Cook Islands politicians have had such free access for decades that they are no different than spoiled children when Mum and Dad finally reach the same point where misdeeds mean a cut in allowance.

Kata captured the way many politicians might react, by running to the Tinito piggy bank. No doubt terrorised that the unnecessary travel, the clothing allowance, the Parliamentary wage increases, might be in jeopardy.

This writer has wondered for decades why successive Kiwi governments continue to fund us when we have proved, time and time again, that we are highly skilled in throwing millions into the surf in one failed, over-budget, misconceived, misconstructed, mismanaged project after the other.

Good on Aotearoa. Keep the purse closed until we learn to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps.
