Letter: Not accommodating

Last year was my daughter's first time playing in the Auckland Cook Island Sports Association field day. For Manihiki her coaches looked after her well.

It was the association who really disappointed me, the coordinator for Manihiki netball did not apologise for not entering my daughter's team into the draw. The coaches were under the impression they would be entered, instead to my surprise and other parents they were not entered or given a honest reasonable explanation, there needs to be a change of culture in the Manihiki Sports Association Auckland.

The tent was not welcoming nor were they accommodating to the children, the coaches who I hope they don't mind me mentioning their names Kayne and Pauline had looked after the girls and really gave there all.

It was the association and few individuals whose mentality need to change or perhaps the association needs an overhaul of change. Kayne and Pauline provided excellent facilities for training and the girls uniforms, all resources were covered and kept the parents up to date they deserve praise. Why I'm writing to Cook Islands News is because there was no space provided by the association to launch a complaint. Our Cook Island communities need more Kayne and Pauline's who genuinely care about the tamariki. A strong reminder when it comes to sport it's not about what people look like or the disability they have or are living with, it's about the positive experiences they create. I would like to acknowledge both Pauline and Kayne for showing the Cook Islands spirit. I am very grateful for the loving experience created by you both and to your families for the support.
