Letter: Climate change talkfest

So Mr Wayne King and his merry band of climate change warriors will wing their way all the way to Azerbaijan to attend another talkfest on climate change.

In the process they will drop tonnes more carbon into the atmosphere from their jet travel. Together with the hot air produced at the 11 day meeting, it will take us well over 1.5 degrees!

No, there won't be two or three going, according to the CI New article of 30 Oct, there will be nine people from the Cook Islands (yes NINE!!) and another 5 wanting to join them from yonder shores.

Reminds one of the old jokes about how many Irishman does it take to change a light bulb.

But don’t worry, it’s all been funded externally, so we can send as many bureaucrats as we want.

But what about the per diems the taxpayers will pay for, and what about the lost productive time, while still being paid for by the taxpayers.  Oh, silly me, there will be no decrease in productivity.

Of course nothing will be achieved at the talkfest, but there will be glowing reports upon their return, all meaningless, and which will be shelved shortly thereafter.

No surprise that the Prime Minister will be joining in, never miss an opportunity to collect Airpoints and per diems.  And get away from the problems at home, police, education, health, water, crime etc, etc.

Meanwhile back on Raro, government policy stops us from increasing the capacity for renewable energy generation.  Two years ago (October 2022) Te Aponga was advertising for those interested in solar generation to sign up.  Despite adverts telling us what a wonderful deal it was, and how there were a number of overseas parties interested, nothing became of it.  Of course TAU is more concerned with profits than reducing diesel consumption.

Yours Cynically,

Taxpayer.
