She presented her Letter of Introduction to Prime Minister Mark Brown during a ceremony at the Office of the Prime Minister on Friday.
The event combined formalities with informal discussions, reflecting the strong and enduring partnership between Australia and the Cook Islands.
High Commissioner Hodson is a seasoned career officer with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
She brings extensive diplomatic experience, having served in postings in Fiji and Belgium, as well as holding various roles within DFAT, including Director of Sports Projects in the Office of the Pacific, Assistant Director of the Pacific Economic Branch, and Assistant Director of Services and Digital Economy in the Office of Trade Negotiations.
Her appointment, announced by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on February 15, 2025, underscores Australia’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Cook Islands.
Prime Minister Brown acknowledged the contributions of her predecessors and emphasised the significance of Australia’s High Commission office in fostering bilateral relations, particularly as the Cook Islands prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025.
“Australia remains an enduring partner as we navigate an increasingly complex world. For the Cook Islands, this support has benefited us directly but also enables us to face regional challenges and opportunities together. I look forward to working with High Commissioner Hodson in the years to come."
He also expressed gratitude for outgoing High Commissioner Phoebe Smith’s efforts in advancing Australia’s interests during her two-year term.
High Commissioner Hodson conveyed her privilege and honour in representing Australia.
She highlighted Australia’s strong advocacy for Pacific unity and collaboration as central to its partnerships in the region.
