Royal New Zealand Air Force makes a pit stop

Rarotonga's skies received a rare buzz on Thursday with the visit of NZ Air Force aircraft.

The sound of roaring aircraft engines in the skies over Rarotonga have been few and far between since March 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe and put a stop to most international air travel.

So when a B757 landed at Rarotonga International Airport on Thursday, social media was abuzz with some people thinking it must be Friday – the only day of the week that an Air New Zealand flights comes to Rarotonga.

Cook Islands Airport Authority chief executive officer Joe Ngamata confirmed the aircraft was a New Zealand Air Force B757, on a refuelling stop bound for Honolulu.
