The Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation are inviting members of the community to showcase their creativity at the ‘Ribbons of Hope’ Mannequin Decorating Competition on the November 30.

The Early Detection Ball is expected to be an event for everyone to show decorative talent by decorating mannequins that celebrate resilience, hope, and the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer.

President of the foundation Jaewynn McKay defined the competition as ‘unique’ which will take place under the marquee on the day of the ball, and inviting participants to create beautiful, thoughtful designs that embody the spirit of hope and support.

“It’s an opportunity to raise awareness in a creative and memorable way, and we look forward to seeing the community’s heartfelt expressions,” she added.

Generously sponsored by Bergman & Sons, the competition offers a $500 cash prize to the entry that most effectively captures the theme Ribbons of Hope. Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, and the depth with which they communicate this theme.

To enter, participants can register their interest by contacting foundation board member Lysia Stringer at 77350 or via email at lysiajts@gmail.com.Mannequins and some basic materials will be available on-site, though entrants are encouraged to bring unique touches—such as fabrics, ribbons, flowers, or other personal decorative items—to make their designs stand out. Participants are also welcome to bring their own mannequins.

Throughout the evening, these decorated mannequins will be displayed around the venue, enhancing the ambiance of the Ball and symbolizing hope and community support for those affected by breast cancer.

“We’re delighted to open this competition to the community. Not only does it celebrate creativity, but it also underscores the importance of early detection in saving lives,” added McKay.

“We’re hopeful that these displays will inspire conversations and a greater awareness about breast cancer.”

Meanwhile, tickets to the gala ball and dinner will be on sale from next week and more details are to follow.
