Leroy Rire Mangere, speaking on behalf of the Pue Youth Club, says the clinic, originally opened in 1981, has not seen any upgrades since and is in dire need of major work.
“The roof needs replacing, the ceiling is damaged, tiles and windows need to be redone – everything,” said Mangere. “People still use the clinic for community occasions or when relatives visit, but it’s in poor shape.”
The radiothon will run from 12noon to 6pm on Radio Cook Islands, hosted by the popular Nga Teao-Papatua.
Mangere says the goal is not just to restore the building, but also to ensure it is properly maintained moving forward.
Work on the kit-set structure started on February 16, 1981. Just over a month later the building was opened on March 28.
