Despite Covid-19, the annual Tropical Christmas festive events will be going ahead this year.

Businesses on Rarotonga have banded together in an effort to bring more cheer, joy and fun for children on the island.

The initiative for the calendar of Christmas events started back in 2013 when several established businesses had a goal to deliver an “Island Spirited” Christmas to light up Rarotonga.

Santa and Elfie will make their first appearance on Saturday December 5 from the CITC Building Centre, with a stopover at Punanga Nui Market before continuing into town with lollie treats on the way.

The anticipated annual Tropical Christmas Santa Parade through town will start from 4pm on Thursday, December 10.

Santa, cartoon characters and the parade participants will depart from the Avarua Catholic Cathedral towards the roundabout.

Mauke and Rakahanga Cook Islands Games teams have confirmed to march in the parade.

The organising committee are welcoming all the other sports teams, dancers, performers and groups to join in and add extra energy, colour and festive spirit for the children.

CITC Main Store will open for late night shopping on parade day until 6pm with a photo booth and food stalls available.

The non-profit Tropical Christmas team relies on the generous support from sponsors and businesses for the activities throughout December. Rotaract’s Christmas in the Market event will start from 4.30pm on Wednesday December 16 at the Punanga Nui Market.
