Cook Islands residents and travellers can catch a glimpse of the fresh new stylish look starting this week, as selected staff model the latest designs.
The trial is part of Air New Zealand’s official uniform wearer programme, with several Rarotonga-based team members among 330 employees across the airline participating in the initiative.
The updated uniforms, designed by renowned New Zealand fashion designer Emilia Wickstead, feature custom hand-drawn prints by Te Rangitu Netana, and represent a significant step in the airline’s move toward a full wardrobe update by 2026.
A standout feature of the new collection is the ie faitaga – a formal lavalava adapted especially for Pacific Island staff.
Its inclusion reflects Air New Zealand’s commitment to cultural representation and inclusion across its workforce.
The wearer trial aims to assess the comfort, fit, and functionality of the uniforms in day-to-day operations.
Feedback gathered from ground crew, cabin staff, and pilots will inform the final design before the full rollout in two years.
Passengers travelling through Rarotonga International Airport can look forward to seeing a fusion of modern design and Pacific heritage on display as part of this trial.
