The proposal to fluoridate the country’s drinking water supply was on the agenda for TMO’s public consultation this week in Rarotonga, which focused on marketing restrictions of unhealthy food and non-alcoholic beverages to children and infants, including alcohol and Sweet and Sugary Beverages (SSBs) Taxation. Te Marae Ora (TMO) Ministry of Health will conduct a feasibility study on school-based water fluoridation to combat alarming rates of tooth decay in Cook Islands children, aiming to reduce it by 50 per cent by 2030.
