Firearm theft concerns police

Police are seriously concerned by the theft of a firearm from an apparent unsecured location.

In a statement, police said the firearm, a .22 rifle, was taken from the vehicle of its licensed owner at Matavera, sometime during Friday evening.

Police is following leads in an investigation into the incident.

In other matters reported over the weekend, two people were remanded into Arorangi Prison yesterday. One person was arrested for driving while disqualified. The other was involved in a domestic dispute and has been charged with assaulting a female.

Police are awaiting blood results from two drivers involved in motorbike crashes.

One occurred on the backroad at Arorangi and the other at Takuvaine, yesterday morning.

Among other complaints at the weekend, police attended to a report of suspected vandalised car tyres on the backroad of Tupapa, damage caused to the garden at the new Constitution Park in town, careless driving and wandering pigs.
