Cook Islands High Court. LOSIRENE LACANIVALU/24050916
Justice of the Peace Tangi Taoro granted interim name suppression on Thursday under the condition that juveniles are involved in the matter and a psychological assessment is being ordered.
This was after defence lawyer Jamie Crawford advised the court that the accused faces a further charge of attempted burglary.
Crawford said looking at the accused criminal history in New Zealand in 2021, due to an intellectual issue, his psychological assessment found he was not fit to plea.
And based on this she requested for a psychological assessment for the current matter.
In his first Court appearance it was heard the accused was visiting Rarotonga from New Zealand and would reside with his aunt.
He was then granted bail under curfew conditions between 7pm-7am and not associate with the juveniles, who are under name suppression due to their age.
And not to interfere with witnesses and not to leave the Cook Islands without the Court’s approval.
