Samu Luteru has admitted to the charges of excess blood alcohol and breaching police safety order.

Luteru, represented by defence lawyer Mark Short, appeared before Justice of the Peace John Whitta at the Criminal Court in Avarua on Thursday last week.

Short requested for an adjournment and probation report for the defendant’s sentencing which is scheduled for May 14.

The case of a woman who was charged for common assault was withdrawn last week.

Police prosecutor senior sergeant Fairoa Tararo said they were satisfied with the alternative necessary means that was taken to solve the problem after it had gone through a diversion programme.

The accused pleaded to the charge and Justice of the Peace John Whitta granted the charges to be withdrawn.

Police are expected to press further charges against Nooti Turahi Peau.

Police prosecutor senior sergeant Fairoa Tararo asked for another adjournment, advising the court that disclosures were yet to be served to the defendant who is expected to face other charges.

Peau, represented by defence counsel Mark Short, is currently charged for possession of cannabis, assault on a female and common assault.

The case is adjourned to May 1.

Ngametua Areai admitted to the charges of careless driving and excess blood alcohol.

Areai admitted that on October 2 last year he had carelessly driven on a public road in Avarua.

He also admitted to the charge of EBA where his blood alcohol reading was 249 milligrams, almost five times above the limit.

The matter has been adjourned for sentencing.

The case of Marsela Kareroa, who faces three counts of theft, has been adjourned to May 1.

Defence lawyer Michelle Tangimama Pera Robati said she was still waiting for the video footage from police on the matter.

She said if the footage was not provided in time, she would make an application for the case to be dismissed.

Greig Upokoina Mose is to be sentenced on May 28 after he admitted to charges of excess breath alcohol and careless driving.

The Court heard that on March 7 this year, Mose drove carelessly in Nikao and when tested, his alcohol level was 590 micrograms.

Police prosecutor senior sergeant Fairoa Tararo requested an adjournment for sentencing as the case involves reparations for another damaged vehicle.
