Cook Islands lawyer Lavi Rokoika has been appointed as the acting Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed Rokoika’s appointment last week.

FICAC is a law enforcement agency in Fiji that investigates and prosecutes public sector corruption.

Rokoika says, “It’s an honour to be called upon by His Excellency, the President of Fiji to serve in this capacity.

“I take the role with the seriousness it deserves. I’m here to do the work that is mandated by the FICAC Act and the Constitution.”

Rokoika says that once her service in Fiji is completed, she will be returning to her home and, “my happy place in Rarotonga, to my children, my garden, and our tight-knit group of Friends of Fiji.”

She is the head of the Rokoika Law Firm based in Rarotonga and has over 20 years legal experience including an instrumental role in shaping significant laws in the region such as Fiji’s Air Navigation Regulations and the Cook Islands’ Transport and Public Health Laws, demonstrating her in-depth understanding of the legal landscape.
