Te Mire Ura Senior Girls 2024 dance champion Zoe Hoff on stage. MELINA ETCHES/24051022
Last year the senior female dance champion title was awarded to Zoe Hoff, with Nekola Christian in second place, and Maihanarei Short in third.
Hoff is participating again in this year’s event and she is looking forward to sharing her passion for Cooks Islands culture on stage and “connecting with others who feel the same way.
“I love dancing because it is who I am. It’s not just about movement- it’s about feeling. It’s my way of staying connected to my culture and expressing everything I feel. When I dance, I feel like I’m telling my story without saying a word. I’m in my element and driven by passion and purpose,” says Hoff.
The show will kick off at 7pm hosted by emcee Papatua Papatua, followed by a welcome speech by the Tauranga Vananga (Ministry of Cultural Development) secretary Emile Kairua.
Guest artists on the night will include the champions of Te Mire Ura Potiki, Tamariki and Intermediate divisions such as Kitimira Moetaua and Liahona Taio.
The seniors dancers will start with the slow beat category followed by the intermission break and continuing with the fast beat and the presentation of prizes.
