The devotion consists of 14 stations, each representing a significant event from Jesus's last day on Earth.
Yesterday at 4am on Good Friday, the youth of the Catholic Diocese of Rarotonga began the annual the ‘Stations of the Cross’ around the island starting at the St. Joseph's Cathedral towards Arorangi.
The group completed the walk at 12.40pm – a total of 8 hours and 40 minutes, the quickest walk for some years.

“The mapu are very happy, energised and empowered by the love shown by everyone giving their support to our Good Friday Stations of the Cross walk around the island. We are walking on behalf of everyone,” he said.
The first station stop/changeover for carrying the cross was opposite the international airport, followed by Super Brown Nikao, The Mini Golf in Arorangi, and a brief rest and refreshments pause at St Mary’s Parish in Arorangi.
The entourage continued walking with various stops along the way including a brief rest at Wigmores Superstore, onto St Paul’s Parish for more refreshments and as well as at the Sacred Heart Parish.
Today, Saturday April 19, the Rarotonga Catholic Diocese Easter Vigil will be held: 6.30pm - Sacred Heart Parish in Matavera, 7pm - St. Paul's Parish in Titikaveka, 8pm - St Joseph's Cathedral in Avarua, 9pm - St. Mary's Parish in Arorangi.Tomorrow Sunday April 20 are the Easter Sunday services: 8am - Sacred Heart Parish in Matavera, 10am - St Joseph's Cathedral in Avarua - Mass will be led by the children of the parish, 10am - St. Mary's Parish in Arorangi, 0.30am - St. Paul's Parish in Titikaveka.
