Jehovah’s Witnesses on Rarotonga and the Cook Islands are inviting the community to join them for the 2025 commemoration of Jesus Christ’s death this Saturday April 12.

The Memorial of Jesus’ death is an annual event observed in harmony with Jesus’ command recorded at Luke 22:19, which states, “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”

The commemoration is a free one-hour event, featuring a Bible-based talk on the importance of Jesus’ death and how we can benefit from what God and Christ have done for us.

Last year, more than 21 million people attended the event worldwide, with almost 600 in Rarotonga.

“Many who are not Jehovah’s Witnesses attend the Memorial to show their deep respect,” says Jeff Tikitau, spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Cook Islands.

“Jesus died so that humans could have their sins forgiven and receive endless life. A beautiful future is now possible because of what Jesus did for us.

“We warmly extend an open invitation to all in the community to join us in remembering Jesus Christ on the anniversary of his death and to show gratitude for his incredible sacrifice. Everyone is welcome.”

The special event, which is the most important day of the year for Jehovah’s Witnesses, will be presented in Cook Island Maori and English. Both meetings will start and end with the singing of a song, as well as a prayer.
