The Indonesian Catholic community, Bishop Reynaldo and guests at the Easter Gathering last Sunday. ARDI MANEKAT/25042825
According to Rarotonga’s Indonesian community leader, Ardy Manekat, he said there are officially 19 Indonesian members in the community so far and 50 to 60 people attended the Easter function.
The event took place at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Arorangi, where Bishop Reynaldo started the event with a Holy Eucharist and the entire Mass held in Bahasa Indonesian national language, the community also displayed a choir performance followed by a feast.
Some locals, friends and parishioners were invited by the community to join and gather for the Easter Mass.
Manekat expressed his gratitude to Bishop Reynaldo and the Catholic Church of Rarotonga for welcoming and accepting the Indonesian community and considering them as family.
He said there are over 200 Indonesians in the Cook Islands, but there are 19 Catholic members in Rarotonga.
The Easter gathering also included a one-year anniversary celebration for Bishop Reynaldo, as he was first ordained as Bishop in Rarotonga on April 7, last year. And it was the second gathering the Catholic Indonesian community organised.
