Private Sector Taskforce chair Fletcher Melvin is encouraging the Cook Islands business community to have a say and complete a new survey.

The survey is to help government decision makers shape the next phase of the Covid-19 economic response.

The new survey was launched yesterday by the Taskforce in association with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management.

There are two separate business surveys in circulation - each complements the other, Melvin said.

The ministry is seeking submission from the Cook Islands Business community to gather input around additional economic impacts that are being, or might be experienced, in order to inform an assessment of gaps in Stage Three of the Economic Response Plan. Stage three will be implemented from July 2020.

“Tell us about your challenges and share what’s going on for your business,” Taskforce chair Fletcher Melvin said.

Last week, the Private Sector Taskforce independently surveyed a selection of 38 local businesses with a view to gather a detailed financial picture of what’s happening in the private sector for economic modelling purposes.

The survey result indicate local businesses are bracing for a 90 per cent drop in income for the six months to September.

The latest survey will close on Friday May 15.
