Crystal Symphony visits twice in one day

You’d be forgiven for thinking you were going through déjà vu yesterday – the feeling you’ve seen something before – when the cruise ship Crystal Symphony cruised to anchor off Avatiu just after8am.

And you’d be right, because the 238-metre luxury liner had already steamed by earlier in the morning on its way to a rare visit to the wharf at Arorangi.

Just after 6am, with lights on and looking prettier than a picture in the early-morning light, the Crystal Symphony sailed on by Avatiu to take advantage of the quieter waters further around the coast.

Only everything was being set up at Avatiu to greet the hundreds of passengers expected to disembark for the delights of Rarotonga.

So, the 51,000 tonne liner retrieved its tender and crew members from Arorangi wharf and, in motoring terms, “chucked a U-ey” back to the town.
