A Cook Islands lawyer this week pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecent assault charges.

The lawyer’s name has been suppressed by the High Court.

The defendant appeared before Justice of the Peace John Whitta.

Crown Law being represented by Kathy Bell told the court that through discussions with the defendant’s counsel they have reached an agreed decision.

The defendant through his defence counsel Brian Mason elected a judge alone trial. A date is to be set by the court registrar.

Mason said with discussions with the Crown, the defendant has decided to cease law practice and will advise his clients.

JP Whitta said: “The counsel has advised that by consent it was agreed that interim suppression of name will continue to allow the defendant time to wind-up his business affairs and advise clients.”

JP Whitta added that the interim suppression is granted but will cease from and including October 29.
