Defending champions Tupapa will take on Turangi in the feature men’s clash in the Rarotonga Cricket Club competition today at Turangi Oval.

In the repeat of last year's final, Turangi will be looking for a revenge and will be banking on the likes of experienced Tereinga Maoate, Vane Tangimetua and Tutu Tangimetua to avenge their last year’s loss.

“Turangi love to play against Tupapa and beat them on their home ground. Both teams have played in the championship finals in the last three years, said Cook Islands Cricket chief executive officer Davis Teinaki.

“There is that inner rivalry between these two clubs and that will be enough motivation for both teams to play hard on Saturday.”

Tupapa will be led by their in-form batsmen Kunta Ritawa, Pokelea Yeutu and Wayken Punga, who will be looking to score plenty of runs to keep them in the match.

Tupapa also welcomed the return of their wicketkeeper/batsman Parker Daniel, which is a morale-booster for the team.

In the women’s match of the week, Nikao will host Avana in a crucial match for both teams.

Both need a win for a chance to play in the top four playoff.

Teinaki said Nikao would have to bring their A team if they want to progress to the top four playoff.

“Key players from the Nikao side such as Anjima Ruarau, Matangalo Pana and Rachel Auora will be vital for Saturday's game.

“On the other hand, Margaret Simiona and Memory Monga will be leading the young and talented Avana side,” Teinaki said.

“This very young Avana side has surprised the cricket community with their performances throughout the women's competition.”

Avana II-Matavera at Nukupure Park – Matavera is expected to go hard this weekend against Avana II. Avana II will be led by Lina Taufahema and Enua Peyroux and will be looking for another upset.

Turangi-Tupapa at Turangi Oval – Turangi is the dominant side in the women's competition and sitting on top of the women's points table. They will be looking to maintain their winning way with the likes of Mona More and Josephine Maoate leading the side. Tupapa will go into this game as underdog.

Matavera-Tupapa II at Matavera Cricket Ground – Matavera would like to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Nikao. Skipper Ray Roumanu will need to regroup his players to go again and win comfortably against the winless Tupapa II.

Tavana-Nikao II at Nukupure Park – Captain Moko and his side will want to step up after they got a hiding in their last game against Tupapa. Nikao II is another winless side and will be led by Ripper Tauia.

Takuvaine-Arorangi at Happy Valley – Both teams must win all their remaining round of games to have a chance to play in the top four playoff. Takuvaine is a balance side with a number of experienced players such as Terry Williams, Leroy Mangere, Ula Teinaki and Vinegar Tiro. Arorangi will be led by Hori Miller, Apii Mamanu and John Glassie.
