An upset win from Nikao over the weekend has made the side joint leaders in The Computer Man Rarotonga Cricket men’s competition.
The side shocked last year’s runners-up, Rehab Titikaveka Titans, after beating them for the first time in seven years.
The Ripa Tauia-led Nikao, which was placed eighth last season, were a different side in round three of the competition on Saturday.
Winning the toss, Nikao elected to bat first and got off to an amazing start through openers Tauia (31 runs) and Aro Akama (57 runs), reaching 87 runs before the captain was bowled by Parutu Zekaria.
Zekaria limited Nikao’s run count as he collected four wickets from his four overs.
Nikao looked depleted and seemed set to bow out for under 100 runs after losing six wickets for just 27 runs.
However, a late burst from Timoti Timoti (31 not out), got the side through to a respectable 161.
The Titans looked comfortable to ease through the target after a superb opening partnership between Rob Samuel and Chauncey Flay. However, things started to go against them when the side lost Samuel lbw to Teaute Ravarua with the score on 44.
Flay (32 runs) followed in quick fashion but Ravarua’s four overs for four wickets and Atu Uwitai three overs for three kept the pressure on the Titans as they lost three wickets without scoring.
Inform Titan Zekaria again managed to get his side back in the game with a bold display of power hitting to post 41 runs while son Paster Zekaria managed 17 before being caught off the bowling of Uwitai as Titans went down for the second time this season.
In other The Computer Man men’s matches, Muri managed to beat TKV, Avana overcame Tupapa II, Turangi lost to Tupapa and Matavera recorded their first points of the season with a win over the Arorangi Red Backs.
In the women’s competition, Muri and Avana remain on top with wins over Tupapa and Nikao, respectively.
