Excitement expected in cricket clash

Excitement and entertainment are on the menu today as the Edgewater Women’s season is in full swing.

In the eastern conference a young Matavera team captained by national player Bene ‘Dottie’ Matapo and coached by national men’s player Ray Roumanu look like they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Avana will have the belief they can beat their fierce rivals Matavera in the match up in Turangi as pre-season preparation together with some new players adds plenty of strength to Enua Peyroux’s team.

Turangi heads down the road to take on east conference opponents Muri. Turangi and national women’s captain June George will provide great leadership to a Turangi side out to beat a strong Muri line-up that includes experienced players Tina Mato, Punanga Kaveao, Lacynthia Rani and Lynn Shepherd.

Arorangi will no doubt fancy their chances against Tupapa in their clash in the western league. Skipper (and national player) Marg Dean will be aware that despite having quality players in Leanne Kiria, Dottie Kiria and Perina Tekorona, Tupapa will be no easy beat. Tupapa joined the competition last season and is looking like a title contender for this season.

Takuvaine has the bye in the western conference, while players are wanted to help strengthen the Avatiu-Nikao team. Please phone the CICA office on 20744 if you are interested in playing for Avatiu-Nikao.
