The Cook Islands Cricket Association will hold a Maori Pa Enua Tokerau cricket challenge today at the Nikao Field.

The competition will feature northern group islands Rakahanga, Manihiki, Penrhyn and Mitiaro.

Cook Islands Cricket chief executive officer Alister Stevic says the competition is part of the coaching and umpiring workshop they are running for children from the northern group islands.

Twenty-eight children aged 12- 17 years are participating in the event.

“From 12.30pm to 2pm, these children will be putting their skills to use in the northern group cricket challenge,” Stevic says.

“We are thankful to our sponsor, Computer Man, who will be providing free barbecue food to the children after the competition.

“The Computer Man and Hori Signs will also be giving a cricket bat each to the children to take home with them before the handing over of the coaching and umpiring certificates.”

Interested members of the public are welcome to support their teams, Stevic says.
