The opening men’s game saw the young Team ATT boys take on the experienced Germinators. The determined ATT boys impressed by being able to keep up with the Germinators who just managed to hold them off by 10-7.
In their second game, Team ATT was just too speedy for the Kuki Squad girls winning 6-1.
In the last men’s game, GAT ran away with the game winning 12-2 over the Nines Team. However, it wasn’t all one way for GAT, a tenacious Nines Squad, new to the game of proper touch, got themselves on to the board with touchdowns of their own.
The opening women’s game was an evenly matched affair between Bounty Hunters and NIKS. Both teams determined to win but it was NIKS that had more opportunities with the ball but were unable to finish off the plays to score. Despite the missed opportunities Mona of NIKS bagged two tries to get the side ahead of Bounty Hunters.
However a break from Pare Noovao of Bounty Hunters equalised the game to two-all. A break from Poko Tangata saw NIKS take the lead but a never say die Bounty Hunters came back in the dying minutes of the game to level the game 3-all.
The second women’s game was an exciting battle between FBI and NukzPower with both teams wanting the win.
Both teams settled well, driving the ball forward looking for options but neither team could break each other’s defence.
At half time, the score was nil-all.
In the second half of the game, FBI stayed composed and defended well, weathering the attack from NukzPower. An excellent movement of the ball by FBI saw the ball land into Paeru’s hands and she drew two players before offloading to Mati Toru on the wing to score in the corner. FBI won the match 1-0.
The mixed Touch competition will be held this afternoon.
